I think it was Anthony Robbins who
said that should is a bad word. There
are so many shoulds imposed on us
from societal, cultural or other ‘external’ pressures. We should work hard at a job that pays a lot of money. We should follow rules with unquestioning
loyalty. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, we should question authority. We should
fight the establishment. We should
claw and gnash our teeth because that’s the only way to learn.
In the midst of all those shoulds, where do you get to question
yourself with your own voice? When were you asked what you hope for or who you
love or what guides you? Who am I or anyone else to tell you what your path is -
what your reason for choosing to be here is? For every should, there is a personally relevant answer to your internal
questioning that only you can know.
Balance within yourself the truth of
who you are with your own answers. We have all taken the chance to be here -
right here, right now. Perhaps you did it to fulfill a destiny. You may want to
help and heal or just be and enjoy. Is that what it says inside your truth?
Just as we all have our likenesses and differences on the outside, we, also, carry likenesses and differences on the inside – in our core being. Our connection to the universe, the source, is common, yet personal.
Your reason may be similar to mine or it may be the polar opposite. Our paths
may cross for awhile. I hope so. For then, we get to enjoy each other’s company
and learn from each other’s words, hopes, dreams, and truths.
There is one should that I’d
like you to take to heart. Staying on your path doesn’t always mean staying in
the same situation. It doesn’t mean that you can’t change your mind; in fact,
to grow you should. Be open to changing yourself. Be open to listening to others,
even when you disagree. There’s a reason that your paths have crossed – hear
it.
I would love to say that these words you’re reading are from me and me
alone – but they’re from every book I’ve read, every show I've seen, every
person I've met and every tree and squirrel that have danced in my visions with throughout my life. This is the ever morphing path I've chosen. What’s yours?
