“The wish for healing has always been half of
health.”
-Lucius Annaeus Seneca-
Though
health has always been a relevant topic in some form or another, there has
certainly been a rise in health consciousness within the last few years. There
are so many new findings that it makes it nearly impossible to decide what we
should stay away from and what is safe and actually healthy. Vitamins,
supplements, organic, soy, gluten-free, sugar free, no preservatives added, and
so on and so forth are subjects we currently hear on a regular basis in
relationship to health. What about Essential Oil Therapy?
Essential
Oil Therapy may not be a term you recognize, but aromatherapy certainly is.
Aromatherapy is simply using natural extracted essences from plants to promote
mental, physical and emotional health. The National Association for
Aromatherapy says [Aromatherapy] “seeks to unify physiological, psychological
and spiritual processes to enhance an individual’s innate healing process.”
Essential oils can be
used in a variety of ways to promote health. A popular form is to mix an
essential oil with a carrier oil such as vegetable or other herbal oils to
create a massage/body oil. Generally body oils are used to reduce stress and
anxiety, provide pain relief, release inflammation, enhance immunity and assist
with relieving muscular and joint aches. You can also place a few drops of
essential oils in an unscented body lotion to help enhance the healing of a
wound, reduce the appearance of scars, detoxify your skin and even help with
emotional issues.
Many people use essential
oils in an oil burner or create aromatic sprays. Commonly these methods are
used as an air freshener, to enhance breathing, change the mood or energy in a
particular space, help with insomnia or other sleep disorders and increase
alertness. There are many other ways to use aromatherapy to enhance your
healing capabilities naturally such as steam inhalation and diffusers. For further
