At the Open Mind Center, it is our goal to create
an inviting atmosphere, top of the line products and a wonderful experience to
all of our clients. Because we are in the customer service industry, we
encounter all kinds of people from all over the world. Personalities,
religions, spiritual beliefs and expectations vary from person to person. Over
the years we’ve had a few experiences that led us to really think about what
having an open mind really means for us?
In our opinion, an open mind means to respect the
values and beliefs of others. To allow our own judgments of what is “right” and
“wrong” to be challenged and to try and allow ourselves to see from the
perspective of others. We have had instances where people have challenged our
company name because we wouldn’t adhere to what their personal opinions were.
We believe having an open mind does not require us to follow the rules or
wishes of others. What it does require is giving others a chance to share their
perspective and allow them to hear ours. This is the key to working out
misunderstandings or maybe even finding a happy medium that suits both parties.
That is what our company name stands for.
So, we challenge you to ponder the term “open
minded” this month. What areas do you feel like could be more open minded? What
areas do you have trouble releasing high standards or judgments towards others? Now look inside yourself and try to figure out why you feel so strongly about
this? Is it a trigger for something else from your past or does it hit close to
home in other ways? May your mind be open!
